Heat For The Homeless

6/5/2017

In America we take it for granted that our homes and offices are cool in the summer and toasty in the winter. For many less fortunate Americans heat in the winter can be a matter of life or death.

Enter artist Michael Rakowitz. Rakowitz built inflatable shelters designed for homeless people, They can attach to exterior vents of a building’s HVAC system. and act as a shelter for the indigent. The warm air leaving the building simultaneously inflates and heats the shelter. These were built and distributed to over 30 homeless people in Boston, Cambridge and New York City.. We don't know exactly how happy any given home or business owner would be to see a plastic igloo with a new tenant on their sidewalk but we most definitely give him a A+ for innovation and the right intentions.
